WORKS GREAT, JUST LIKE NEW
Sounds very different (before and after)
* Cleaned in and out (dust-free, smoke-free)
* New lamps
* All controls deoxidized and lubed, move without static or noises
* All cold solder joints/tracks re-flowed with fresh solder
* FM tuner aligned
* Bias voltages adjusted for perfect performance (not by service manual, but by ear and heatsink/transistor temperatures, the service manual value is way too low and dull-sounding;)
* DC offset is below 2 mV, L/R
* All capacitors in power supply replaced except big filter caps (those die last), signal path caps tested good and were not touched, to preserve original sound signature
* All transistors are original; this unit was never repaired
* This Onkyo sounds SPECTACULAR; hearing is believing.
The sound quality of this particular machine is equal to vintage Luxman amps made in 1979-1984 (L-450, etc) and very similar to Marantz 2226B, 2238B.
*40 WPC RMS (old school Watts, rated differently, LOUD)
* Two sets of big speakers can be used at the same time
* Speakers can be switched off
* Digital and analog sources can be hooked up (iPod, computer, tape deck, CD player, turntable)
I've been collecting vintage stereos for a long time, so trades for old Denon, Rotel, Pioneer, Sansui, Kenwood, Nakamichi, Sony, Philips in any condition will be considered.
