Nathaniel Hone the younger print in frame
Nathaniel Hone the younger
The Coast of Country Clare with the Atlantic. Size of frame 16 x 13
Born to an artistic Dublin family, Hone was the most significant Irish landscapist of the 19th century. Though educated as an engineer, he preferred painting and could afford to switch careers. (Already independently wealthy, he'd married the Jameson whiskey heiress.) A key member of the Barbizon School, and known as one of the so-called "Irish Impressionists," he settled down in his native land to become a Professor of Painting and create his broad, harmonious scapes in oils and watercolors.
